How to Apply for the Civil Service Exam

Applying for the Civil Service Exam is less stressful when you separate what is already known from what your CSC regional office still needs to announce. Here is a step-by-step route from choosing an exam to keeping your filing records.

1. Pick a level and exam date

Professional eligibility covers first- and second-level positions; Subprofessional covers first-level positions, subject to the qualification standards of each job. Compare the two levels, then review the 2027 CSE calendar. The March and August exam windows have separate application periods.

2. Check that you qualify

The CSC's most recent detailed CSE announcement requires Filipino citizenship, age 18 or older at filing, good moral character, and compliance with rules on convictions, dismissal and previous same-level attempts. A college degree is not required merely to sit either exam level, though a specific government job may require one. Read the full eligibility guide and the new exam-specific CSC notice before filing.

3. Prepare the documents

The 2026 CSE announcement called for CS Form No. 100 (Revised 2023), four recent passport-size photos meeting its format rules, an accepted ID and photocopy, and a ₱500 examination fee. Additional records may be needed if your ID does not show your birth date or you have dual citizenship. These are 2026 reference requirements; the 2027-specific notice controls your application. Check the accepted ID guide before making copies or photos.

4. Follow your region's filing instructions

Do not assume every region uses the same online appointment or walk-in process. Read the CSC announcement and your regional office's instructions for where, when and how to file. Slots may close when filled. Review all entries, photos and document copies before submission, and pay only through the process CSC specifies.

5. Keep your records and prepare

Save your application or official receipt and any appointment confirmation. Before exam day, use the CSC's school-assignment notice, read the exam-day guide, and practice using the CSE coverage map and our free mixed practice test.
