Before you start studying for the Civil Service Exam, you need to make sure you're actually allowed to take it and that you have all the right papers. The CSC is super strict when it comes to deadlines and requirements.
Basic Qualifications
To take either the Professional or Sub-Professional exam, you need to meet these basic rules:
- Citizenship: Must be a Filipino citizen.
- Age: Must be at least 18 years old on the day you apply.
- Good Moral Character: Must have good moral character.
- No Criminal Record: Must not have a criminal record involving serious offenses, dishonesty, or drug addiction.
- No Dismissal: Must not have been fired from a government job or dishonorably discharged from the military.
Documentary Requirements
When you go to the CSC office to apply, don't forget to bring these:
- Application Form: A filled-out Civil Service Exam Form (CS Form No. 100). Make sure you don't leave any blanks. If it doesn't apply to you, write 'N/A'.
- ID Pictures: Four (4) identical passport-size ID pictures taken within the last 3 months. It must have a white background and a clear handwritten name tag (Signature over Printed Name).
- Valid ID: The original and a photocopy of a valid ID (like your Driver's License, Passport, PRC ID, Voter's ID, or Postal ID).
- Exam Fee: Prepare the exam fee, which is usually ₱500.00 for the Pen and Paper Test.
Important Application Tips
The CSC accepts applications on a first-come, first-served basis. They often close the application period early once they reach their quota. Because of this, it's highly recommended to apply during the first week!
After you apply, the CSC will give you an exam receipt. Don't lose this! You'll need to show it on exam day along with your valid ID.
