Welcome to the best starting point for anyone planning to take the Philippine Civil Service Exam. Whether you want a promotion or you're applying for your first government job, passing the CSE is your ticket.
This guide will walk you through everything you need to know—no confusing jargon, just simple English.
What is the Civil Service Exam?
The CSE is a test given by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to see if you are fit to work in the government. Passing it gives you "Civil Service Eligibility," which you need for most permanent government jobs.
Professional vs Sub-Professional
You have to choose between two levels when you apply:
- Professional: Harder, includes Logic and Math questions, but lets you apply for higher-paying technical and managerial jobs.
- Sub-Professional: Easier, includes Clerical questions instead of Logic, but only lets you apply for lower-level clerical jobs.
What are the Requirements?
To take the exam, you need to be a Filipino citizen, at least 18 years old, and have no serious criminal record. You don't even need a college degree to take the Professional level!
For the full list of IDs and forms you need to bring, check out our Requirements List.
What's the Passing Score?
You need to get a final rating of at least 80.00%. The CSC uses a special formula to compute this, so it's not just a simple percentage of right vs. wrong answers.
How to Prepare
The biggest reason people fail is that they run out of time. The test gives you around 1 minute per question. You need to practice answering fast.
- Take full mock exams online.
- Brush up on basic math and fractions.
- Practice reading English paragraphs quickly to find the main idea.
