A lot of examinees fail the Civil Service Exam because they run out of time during the Math (Numerical Ability) section. You don't have a calculator, so you need to be smart.

1. Memorize Basic Fractions to Decimals

Don't waste time dividing on paper. Memorize that 1/4 is 0.25, 1/3 is 0.33, 1/2 is 0.50, and 3/4 is 0.75. This makes solving word problems much faster.

2. Use the Process of Elimination

Before you solve a long problem, look at the choices. Sometimes you can estimate the answer. If the problem asks for the cost of 5 apples at ₱12 each, the answer is 60. If the choices are 40, 50, 60, and 120, you know 120 is way too high and you can ignore it immediately.

3. Learn the PEMDAS Rule by Heart

Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction. A lot of questions are simple equations designed to trick people who forget the proper order of operations.
